About

The Frank and Clara Hirsch Foundation, Inc. is a privately operated, non-profit foundation based in Towson, Maryland. Since 2007, The Hirsch Foundation's signature program, the Recovery Coach program, has provided peer support and education to patients facing cancer of the colon, prostate, lung, esophagus, endometrium, or head and neck, or non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The program is currently operated in partnership with the American Cancer Society's Northeast Region.

The Hirsch Foundation works to:

  • recruit and train survivors of different types of cancer to mentor new patients, in the hope that in the near future all patients diagnosed with any type of cancer can be provided with one-on-one peer support.

  • introduce the Recovery Coach program to health care professionals and patients.

  • operate and manage the Recovery Coach program throughout the Northeast Region.

In addition, The Hirsch Foundation:

  • provides funding to hospitals in Maryland and Washington, DC to transport oncology patients to and from essential oncology appointments, such as chemotherapy and radiation appointments. The hospitals currently receiving funding are: Anne Arundel Medical Center; George Washington University Hospital; Greater Baltimore Medical Center; Mercy Medical Center; St. Agnes Hospital; and the University of Maryland Greenbaum Cancer Center.

  • provides grocery store gift cards to oncology patients nominated by the hospitals listed above, and provides funding for wigs and other head coverings to Mercy Medical Center.

  • promotes the Recovery Coach and Reach to Recovery programs in various forums.
